Music is how a field full of strangers becomes one animal. Not just a stage with a line-up, though there will be that. Drums that start by themselves, a choir that forms in a week, a song everybody knows by the third night. Music is the pillar for joy, and joy is not optional.
The land favours instruments over speakers. Drum circles, acoustic sets, medicine music, a choir that anyone can join. There will be amplified nights too, and dancing until the ground shakes, but the default sound of the land is somebody actually playing something.
Two centres of gravity. A stage, built into the land rather than on it, for the artists who come to play: medicine music, live electronic, folk, whatever moves a crowd with honesty. And the fire, where the music is whoever picked up a guitar. Both matter equally.
Dance without a drink in your hand, without talking, without performance. A sunrise dance floor in a meadow. Movement as a way to get out of the head and into the body, which is where most of the land’s work gets done.
Sound has limits here, set by the ecology and by the neighbours. Late nights are held in the corner of the land built for it, quiet hours are quiet, and the birds get the dawn. The music is bigger for it, not smaller.
